Congratulations to St. Raymond's, our 2010 8th Grade Boy's Tournament Champions. A juggernaut of a team, the boys from St. Raymond's displayed great skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. The St. Raymond team easily played through their bracket to arrive at the tournament championship game vs. a spunky team from Round Lake, the St. Joseph's Chargers.
St. Joe's fought their way to the final game with tough victories over the other teams in their bracket including a nail-biter, three-game win over St. Pat's of Wadsworth. That upset victory set the stage for the tournament championship match.
St. Raymond took an early lead and in short order won the first game of the match. St. Joe's fought back in game two to tie the match and force game three. What followed was some of the best volleyball we've seen at St. Anastasia. Long volleys were punctuated with hard spikes only to be saved and returned as the fans of both teams roared their approval.
In the end one team, of course, had to come out ahead and tonight it was St. Raymond making the key plays right at the end to win the game, match and tournament. Congratulations to St. Raymond's, St. Joe's and to all the student athletics that competed in the 2010 St. Anastasia 9th Grade Boy's Tournament. Thanks to all the coaches and parents for making this weekend a positive experience for all the kids.
